What is the Workforce Development Program (WDP)?
The Workforce Development Program (WDP) provides District of Columbia residents with job skills training leading to employment. The industries focused on are those where jobs are available in the District and in the metropolitan area. The four areas identified by the District of Columbia as most in demand include: (1) Applied Health, (2) Construction, (3) Hospitality, and (4)Administrative/Technology. These form the basis of the training offered by WDP. Training provided by WDP is free to residents of the District of Columbia.
Current WDP Programs focus on:
- Health Care
- Construction Trades
- Hospitality Careers
- Office Technology
WDP also provides training to improve the literacy skills of DC residents so that they have the skills they need to enter specific training programs provided by WDP. These programs include:
- Preparation for the General Education Diploma (GED preparation)
- Preparation for the Accuplacer (Accuplacer is the placement test for entrance into the Community College of the District of Columbia (CCDC) and the University of the District of Columbia (UDC)
- Preparation for the National Work Readiness Certificate
